Children's Book Week is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading.
Established in 1919, Children's Book Week is the longest-running
national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, commemorative
events are held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, homes --
wherever young readers and books connect!
We had fun dressing up as some of our favourite literacy characters. Can you guess who we all are?

More Talks about Organisations
This week we have been lucky enough to have 3 talks about organisations that take action
Anastasia's dad Peter works for Kennards Hire. He was part of the Variety Bash this year and brought his amazing car in for us to look at (and hear).
Variety-the
Children’s Charity is a national not-for-profit organisation committed
to empowering Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or who
have special needs to LIVE, LAUGH & LEARN.

The Variety Bash is Australia's largest (and favourite!) motoring event with participants travelling to rural parts of Australia that they would otherwise not see, at the same time raising money for disadvantaged and special needs children. Throughout the Bash, participants visit local towns, stopping into the schools to visit the kids (some schools only having 5 students!). Bashers get to see the smiles of the kids they've help and provide the schools with equipment to assist students development and education.

Cath works as a freelance photographer and has taken some beautiful photos for them this year.
She also showed us some YouTube clips. These are the links:

As part of their exhibition, 4 of the year 7s went to the RSPCA to find out what they did. This was lucky for us as they were able to come back and talk to us about the organisation.

Year 7 - RSPCA
The RSPCA is an independent, non-government community-based charity providing animal care and protection services.
The RSPCA runs 40 shelters and employs around 1,000 staff. It costs more than $80 million each year to deliver all of our services which help improve the lives of Australian animals. Most of this money comes from public donations and fundraising initiatives, as well as business partnerships, grants and RSPCA patrons.www.rspca.org.au/

Unit of Inquiry Talks
We have been lucky enough to have 2 visitors come and speak to us about organisations they are involved in.
Resthaven supports older people and their carers through a range of in-home care and support, residential services, retirement living, respite and support for carers of older people.

The Grey Box Community Group is about the preservation of Adelaide’s natural heritage. They believe our natural heritage plays just as important role as our cultural heritage, and that they are in fact intertwined. The basis of this community group is to raise awareness of the Greybox Grassy Woodland and the need for its preservation and restoration within our backyards.

Soccer
The boys from Room 1 and some of the children from the other classes have been playing soccer this term and last term. They have done very well and have been learning about working together as a team and playing fairly. Sadly soccer is over for the year but I'm sure we will continue to see it played at school. Well done everyone!
